October 2023 marks 50 years since the opening of the Oakland Community School, a Black Panther Party charter school for the Oakland community. The school was open to all community members and welcomed hundreds of children ages 2 1/2 to 11 years old during the 9 years it was open.
During the October 2023 to May 2024 school year, we will celebrate the Oakland Community School by hosting Archivist Conversations, a monthly webinar hosted by the Director of the OCS Project, Angela LeBlanc-Ernest.
From archival items to live conversations with former students, educators, and parents of the Oakland Community School, we’re excited to share a number of resources and information that the legacy of OCS has to offer.
